SHAKE it up for your best health and longest life!

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO LEARN MORE ABOUT OUR SHAKE PROGRAM TO HELP FIGHT OBESITY!

Created by Dr. Pierre-Louis, SHAKE stands for Social Health Awareness through Knowledge & Exercise.

The SHAKE Program is our initiative to help combat obesity-caused dermatological conditions and premature death. More than 41% of Americans are obese or live with obesity-associated diseases. As obesity continues to increase among the US and world population, more cases of preventable dermatological diseases present to our clinic everyday.

Obesity causes disruptions in the body’s organs in addition to malfunctioning of the immune system’s inflammatory pathways. This leads to the onset or worsening of inflammatory diseases that affect the skin, the body’s largest organ, in addition to hair and nails.

Beyond skin, hair, and nails, other organs become damaged by obesity over time and then fail. Premature death occurs from heart disease, untreated diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer as obesity progresses over time.

Obesity-associated dermatology disorders

  • Obesity aggravates psoriasis and further increases the risk of heart disease. The number one cause of death for psoriasis and obese patients is heart disease.

  • Obesity disrupts numerous body organs in this condition to cause mild to severe inflammation in the body folds in the form of painful boils and cysts.

  • Obesity causes the rubbing, irritation, and infection of skin and hair follicles to form painful boils and cysts that may leave scars.

  • Obesity causes inflammation and hormone shifts that can cause deep cystic and inflammatory acne of the face and body in males and females.

  • Stress from chronic inflammation and systemic illness can flare rosacea to cause facial redness, swelling, and painful pimples.

  • Obesity affects the pancreas over time to cause insulin resistance and diabetes. As the pancreas malfunctions, hyperpigmentation occurs on the face, extremities, and in body folds due to excess peptide production.

  • Numerous hair problems occur in obesity. The hormonal and inflammatory stressors on the body cause shock and accelerated aging of hair follicles to cause premature androgenic alopecia in addition to potential telogen effluvium and scarring alopecia. Excess facial hair, hirsutism, may occur in women from hormone disruptions due to obesity.

  • Obesity disrupts the immune system and increases the risk of all skin cancers, especially melanoma in those with a personal or family history of the skin cancer.

  • The unhealthy state of obesity can exacerbate vitiligo, prurigo nodularis, yeast intertrigo, keloids, seborrheic dermatitis, other eczemas, dry skin, and skin infections.

  • NUTRITION

Poor nutrition causes obesity. Foods with high fat, sugar, and salt content create addictive cravings and dependency on toxic foods that slowly cause organ damage. Our bodies stop processing these sugars, fats, and salts and develop diabetes, high cholesterol, and metabolic dysfunction. A nutrition reset is essential to SHAKE Obesity.

  • EXERCISE

Exercise is a critical component for successful weight loss and to keep it off. Lack of physical activity causes obesity and will limit your ability to lose weight. You must work off the weight to lose it. Engage in an exercise plan to lose weight, keep it off, tone excess skin, and prevent future illness.

  • SCIENCE

Advancements in science and drug development have identified specific targets to help patients lose weight, prevent organ failure, and restore health. No one is beyond help if they want it. We offer systemic medications, such as semaglutide, to support your weight loss goals.

  • COMMUNITY

Obesity is a public health challenge. It reflects the poor health of many in our communities. Obesity will not go away without community support to SHAKE Obesity. Friends, family, and loved ones need support to take action and treat obesity.
